Hand Inflammation

What is hand inflammation?

Inflammation of the hands can result in a red, itchy rash. The skin tends to be dry and may feel hot, taut, appear swollen and have a tendency to crack. It commonly occurs among people who come into contact with irritating substances or a need to wash their hands frequently as part of their job. It can also occur as a result of an allergy to certain plants, foods, chemicals, cosmetics, lanolin, perfume or soaps.

What can you do about hand inflammation?

Continued contact with the substance causing the inflammation should be avoided. It’s also best to keep hands dry, as water weakens the skin’s natural resistance. Soap, which can dry and irritate the skin, shouldn’t be used.

Inflammation and itching need to be relieved to prevent scratching.

Emollients can improve skin quality, helping to prevent recurrence, and the use of a protective barrier treatment can assist in reducing contact with water-based irritants.
